About Torry

Torry Lewis, a native of Atlanta, Georgia, was born at Grady Memorial Hospital on September 9, 1983.  As the first child of Wheeler and Angela Lewis, Torry had nothing to do in his early years but to be loved!  Five years later brought the birth of his sister Ashley.  The young family moved to Norcross, Georgia months before Ashley was born in 1988; Torry has been a resident of Norcross (Unincorporated) every since!

As a student, he first attended The Answer Center Christian Academy and then was transferred to Beaver Ridge Elementary.  “This is where my political nature was installed,” says Torry.  As an elementary student, he was elected Alternate Class President by his young peers.  After finishing at Beaver Ridge, he then went down the street to Summerour Middle School.  He finished his education with the Gwinnett County Public School System at Norcross High School (the old one!).  At NHS, Torry was apart of the Varsity football team and many other clubs throughout his four year stay.

With the support of his family, as both his mother and father attended college with degrees in accounting and electronics engineering respectively, Torry was ready for college.  Though he did not fully understand the impact of the community and school system at the time, he now understands that the fact that college was expected of everyone and that anything else was not acceptable.  That type of environment propelled Torry to excellence as a student at Savannah State University in Savannah, Georgia

At Savannah State University, Torry represented the United States at the Harvard Model United Nations in Edinburgh, Scotland.  He was also a member of the Student Government Association, SSU Golf, SSU Quiz Bowl Team, and served as a charter member of the Center for Leadership and Character Development and the Savannah State Political Science Association.  He was also fortunate to gain affiliation with Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity.  Though Lewis was pleased with his education at Savannah State University, he looked for more challenges.

After graduating from Savannah State University in 2005, Torry took his drive for change back to his community as he ran for the Georgia State House of Representatives in 2006.  Lewis battled a two-term incumbent and spent only $400 as he fell short by only 95 votes.  “I was outspent….that’s all”, said Torry.  After the election he decided to earn his Masters of Public Administration at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia.  Graduating in one year as the youngest graduate from his program, we are at the present.

Torry Lewis has decided to take on his opponent again to ensure that his community gets the representation needed in order to maintain their standards of living.  Torry firmly believes that it is possible to make Georgia into an even more competitive state with some of his ideas in place. “Real Representation…Right Now!” is the motto of this year’s campaign and Torry plans on being victorious.
